Traditional Pairings
 |
This consists of pairing an adult with a child from a single-parent family.
The volunteer must commit to meeting the child three or four hours per week, biweekly, (ideally) until the child’s majority. |
Being a Big Brother or a Big Sister is above all being a child's friend and confidant. It is not the volunteer's role to parent the child. Through this friendship, the volunteer contributes to the harmonious development of the child.
In addition to providing a necessary balance in a child’s life, a Big Brother or Big Sister can help prevent delinquency through his or her presence and empathy.
Did you know that thanks to the involvement of people like you:
| 46% of children who are paired are less likely to use drugs |
| 27% of children who are paired are less likely to drink alcohol |
| 52% of children who are paired are less likely to drop out of school |
| 37% of children who are paired are less likely to skip school |
These statistics come from a Public/Private Ventures study conducted in 1992-1993 with children, half of which were paired with Big Brothers and Big Sisters and half of which were not. This analysis was conducted over an 18-month period.
If you wish to become a Big Brother or Big Sister in our traditional pairing program , take a few minutes to complete our online questionnaire. We will contact you upon receipt to schedule a personal information session.
