Traditional Pairings

They consist of pairing an adult with a child from a single-parent family.
The volunteers must commit to meeting the child three or four hours per week, every two weeks, (ideally) until the child’s majority. |
Being a Big Brother, a Big Sister, foremost being a child's friend and confidant. It is not the volunteer's role to parent the child. Through this friendship, the volunteer contributes to the harmonizers development of the child.
In addition to providing a necessary balance in a kid’s life, a Big Brother or Big Sister can, through his/her presence and empathy, help prevent delinquency.

These statistics come from a Public/Private Ventures study conducted in 1992-93 with children, half of which were paired with Big Brothers and Big Sisters, the other half not. This analysis was conducted over an 18-month period.
